From FOOD MATTERS the book and the encounter with Thuy and Thomas :

Instead of them waiting for me, I was on the lookout for them. I suppose it had as much to do with my excessive punctuality as with their tardiness. When they finally came through the station doors I waited a few seconds to signal my presence. I followed their eyes, scanning the crowd looking for that unknown ally. For a moment I could feel the vulnerability of the ignorant and uninformed. [ ] Why didn't they invite me to their house? Why didn't they show some pictures? Why did they ask about me all the time? Were they deliberately hiding from me? Did they want me to remain ignorant? For what reason? This was all unexpected and made me feel very uncomfortable. At the same time the idea that I would leave this meeting without any concrete clue started to excite me. And apparently it excited them too, because when one of them finally suggested showing some pictures all three of us decided to put that smartphone away.
I was glad we cleared that up, and that ultimately there was no bigger plan. [Food Matters, page 89]
