De erfenis* bestaat uit twee delen, verdeeld over twee huizen. Eén dat had gediend
om te wonen, één dat een passie diende. Het tweede huis heeft een dubbele oppervlakte van het eerste, waarbij elke m² bedekt is met oude radio’s, televisies, versterkers, bandrecorders, antennes, toestellen en reparatiegerief allerhande. Op zichzelf lijkt het een immense opslagplaats te zijn voor wat er op de rommelmarkten in Eeklo, en occasioneel in Gent, te kopen of te krijgen was. Wat kapot was, werd gerepareerd en ging soms, door doorsijpelende regen of ander verslijt, terug kapot.
Wanneer de bestaansoorzaak en -reden – de verzamelaar – wegvalt, is het ontbinden van de verzameling onontkoombaar. Het uiteenvallen wordt geaccelereerd door kunstenaars uit te nodigen van wie het oeuvre aanknopingspunten heeft met de aard van de verzameling. Hun invalshoeken en eigen praktijk transformeren de verzameling, van opslag naar een werk in context.
Aan mijn grootvaders museale fantasie, die waarschijnlijk de verzamelingsdrang
probeerde te legitimeren, wordt zo gehoor gegeven met een tijdelijke expo.

This talk is a short tale about a ‘foreign affair’ between Europe and its
significant other: an invite to think and rethink to which extent both
sides involved in the so-called integration process comply with our
capacity to imagine a ‘life more glamorous’ for everyone and, also,
anyone being part of it. And it's no secret: to migrate from an
expectable, either politically correct or incorrect position with regard
to this and related issues, presents but another opportunity to
exercise the power of words and images (or its lack thereof) around
mankind at large – their lives and deaths, their vices and virtues, and
the crisis of the self in front of the other. Are you ready?
